You probably didn’t land here on purpose. Few people do. Somebody shared a link, or a search took a wrong turn, or you were following a thread about salt batteries and ended up reading about a silver cauldron pulled out of a Danish bog. However it happened, you stayed long enough to be reading this, and that tells us something about you.
There’s a kind of person who walks past a leaning fence post and keeps going. There’s another kind who slows down. They look at the post, then at the ground around it, then at the next post down the line, which is leaning the same direction. They start wondering about drainage. About frost heave. About who set these posts and whether that guy knew what he was doing. Give the second person ten minutes and there’s a tape measure out. Give them an afternoon and there’s a toolbox open on the tailgate.
That’s who reads Blue Ribbon Team. People who look at a thing a beat longer than the situation calls for, and then start asking how it could work better.
You’re rarer than you’d think. Plenty of people are smart. Fewer are curious in that stubborn, practical way that turns a gripe into a sketch on a napkin. A smaller number still go looking for writing that feeds that habit.
Here’s where we need your help.
BRT is free. No paywall, no subscription, no pop-up asking you to turn off your ad blocker. We publish it that way on purpose, because ideas do more good loose in the world than locked in a drawer. The trade-off is that we don’t have a marketing budget. We have you.
So here’s the ask:
- Look through what we’ve published and pick the article that made you think the hardest. Could be the one that had you nodding along, could be the one that made you want to argue.
- Scroll to the bottom of it. The share buttons are waiting there.
- Send it out to your social media, or straight to the one friend who’d chew on it.
One article. One share.
Think about who in your life is a fence-post person. The neighbor with opinions about the storm drains. The coworker who rebuilt the break room schedule because the old one bugged her. The cousin who reads instruction manuals for fun. Those folks are out there putting up with problems they’d rather be solving, and plenty of them don’t know there’s a corner of the internet built for them. Point them here.
We aren’t asking anyone to agree with us. Some of what we publish will strike you as dead on. Some of it will strike you as half-baked. A reader or two will finish an article convinced we’re a pack of dumbasses, and we’re fine with that, as long as they got there by thinking. A well-reasoned “you’re wrong, and here’s why” does more for the world than a hundred thumbs-up from people who skimmed the headline.
The thinkers of the world should be thinking. Help us find a few more of them.
Pick one. Scroll down. Share it.
Thanks for looking a little longer.
