Considering home architecture,

I seldom am attracted to Craftsman homes. I do not dislike them. They are usually well built and most have some interesting features…but especially when viewed as the follow-up to the Victorian Era of architecture. I mean next to a fully dressed Queen Anne, or a Second Empire under a haunted sky; nothing else is really gonna get a fair shake from me.

Then again, when I was up in Bangor, Maine; I ran across more than one exception.

Pictured above is a pretty top notch Craftsman in my opinion. It keeps the no nonsense approach to a solid house, with just enough decorative whimsy to give the house a warm friendly personality.

I think my favorite features are the wide stairs leading up to a great sitting porch. The arched supprts are a nice touch and compliment the rounded short squat turret to its left. The split roof with mutiple gables is one of my personal favorite ways to waste materials and floor space. As always, the Eddie Bauer color scheme appeals to the same deep rooted WASP that draws me to the rest of the bougie architecture I love.
