A customer action for Duquesne Light households in Allegheny and Beaver counties

On October 1, nearly 1,000 IBEW Local 29 workers walked off the job at Duquesne Light. These are the line crews, technicians, and support staff who restore your power after storms and keep the grid running. Their concerns include staffing, forced overtime, safety, contracting out their work, and retiree health care.

Duquesne Light earns part of its money on every kilowatt-hour that moves through its wires. So we’re asking every DLC customer to use as little electricity as possible until the company settles a fair contract.

You don’t have to sit in the dark. Cut what you can:

  • Unplug TVs, game consoles, chargers, and anything with a standby light
  • Dry laundry on a rack or line instead of the dryer
  • Run the dishwasher less, or wash by hand
  • Switch off lights in empty rooms; use one lamp in the evening
  • Turn off the extra fridge or chest freezer in the garage if it’s empty or nearly so
  • Cook on the stovetop or grill instead of the electric oven
  • Businesses: dim signage, cut after-hours lighting, shut down idle equipment overnight

Keep running anything you need for health and safety. That includes medical equipment, oxygen concentrators, your main refrigerator, heat, sump pumps, and security or fire systems. Nobody should risk their health for this.

A second thing you can do: call Duquesne Light at 888-393-7100 (For Residential Customers) 412-393-7300 (For Business Customers) and tell them you’re cutting back until the strike ends. Then contact the PA Public Utility Commission at (412) 423-9310 and your state representative, and ask them to push both sides toward a fair agreement.

Every kilowatt you skip is a vote. Share this with your neighbors.
